In May 1985, Birmingham City Council decided to compete for the British nomination as host city for the 1992 Olympic Games.
The City Council appointed Ove Arup & Partners to prepare a feasibility study covering all aspects of the Games, to be completed within an eight week period. Seven principal areas of study were identified: sports facilities, accommodation, transport, telecommunications, games management, funding and finance and economic impact.
