How we're governed

We recognise the value of transparency around organisational governance, how businesses are led and managed, and how stakeholder considerations are reflected in decision making, and our governance reflects that.

At Arup, we are committed to contributing meaningfully to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by collaborating with our clients and creating shared value for both society and the planet. We will apply our expertise, diversity of thought, and independence to create safe, resilient, and regenerative places that enable current and future generations to thrive.

 

Aims

Our collaborations with clients, our approach to projects, and our investments will be guided by six key principles:

  • Improve human health, safety, and well-being through the quality of the built environment and the health of our planet.

  • Transition to a zero-carbon world, ensuring access to clean energy for all.

  • Adopt circular economy principles, leading to the decoupling of economic growth from consumption.

  • Enhance communities' resilience to climate change, nature loss, and other risks.

  • Create social value to achieve a more inclusive, equitable, and just society.

  • Restore nature and respect planetary boundaries.

We Will

  • Use the six principles to guide our business and service strategies, and shape the delivery of our projects.

  • Develop collaborative relationships with our clients to deliver sustainable development.

  • Invest in partnerships and ventures that enable innovation and amplify our contributions.

  • Invest in learning and research to continually increase the knowledge and skills our people need to deliver sustainable development.

  • Assist the most vulnerable in society through our Community Engagement program.

  • Integrate sustainable development in our services, projects, and corporate practices by applying our Group Policies on Climate, Nature & Environment; Ethical Conduct; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; Health, Safety and Wellbeing; Information Security; Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking; and Quality.

  • Communicate our progress to clients and stakeholders through our Annual Report.

Governance

This policy is set by the Arup Group Limited Board and is implemented across all Arup operations and services through policies, procedures, management systems, and learning programs.

It is reviewed and approved annually, or more frequently if required.

The Global Sustainable Development Director is responsible for ensuring that plans are developed and executed to achieve the aims of this policy, while complying with all applicable legal, regulatory, and other requirements.
